由北京信息科技大学外国语学院主办，中国日报网爱新闻iNews协办的“首届北京信息科技大学外国语学院-中国日报网翻译大赛”于2015年5月21日至28日。这次比赛的初赛和决赛在爱新闻iNews网站中举行。
初赛共有73人参加，30人进入决赛。28日决赛将会决出前10人，分别获得一二三等奖。
以下是在初赛中挑选的一篇译文：
SixYears in, ObamaJoins Twitter Universe (but He’s Not Following You)
六年过去了，奥巴马终于加入了推特（但他并不粉你）

President Obama is facing a starknewchallenge: trying to communicate in no more than 140 characters.
奥巴马总统正面临着一个完全陌生的新挑战：他要尝试着在140个字母的限制内与别人交流。
On Monday, the famously verbosepresidentstarted his own Twitter account, promising to engage personally — notthrough astaff member — with the American people in the often chaotic forum,which hasbecome a kind of global town square for the Internet age.
本周一，这位著名的“碎碎念”总统开通了他的个人账号，同时承诺此账号只由他个人打理---而不是由哪个工作人员。推特已经成为网络时代的一个“全球公民集散地”，而他将在这个“时常混乱”的论坛与美国民众密切交流。
Mr. Obama joined the fray with ashortdescription — “Dad, husband, and 44th President of the United States” —and apicture of him leading a crowd in a commemorative walk across the EdmundPettusBridge in Selma, Ala., in March.

His first post included a greeting —“Hello,Twitter! It’s Barack. Really!” — and a lament, “Six years in, they’refinallygiving me my own account.” The message went up at 11:38 a.m., justbefore thepresident headed to Camden, N.J., to deliver a very old-fashionedin-personspeech.

As of the early evening, more thanonemillion people had signed up to follow the president’s musings. Bycomparison,his counterpart in Britain, David Cameron, who joined Twitter inJanuary 2010,has just over one million followers. Pope Francis, who signed upin December2012, has just over six million.

Mr. Obama’s trajectory puts him ontracktoward reaching the heights of such celebrities as Katy Perry, who topsTwitterwith nearly 70 million followers, and Justin Bieber, who ranks secondwithalmost 64 million.

And then there is the existing@BarackObamaTwitter handle, which was started in 2007 and has 59.2 millionfollowers. Itis, however, operated by Mr. Obama’s former campaign operation andis rarelyused by the president. There is also the @WhiteHouse handle, whichcommunicatesofficial missives to its 6.1 million followers.
其实已经有一个名为@BarackObama的账号在运营，其于2007年开通，有五千九百二十万粉丝。然而这个账号是由奥巴马先生以前的竞选团队在管理的，总统本人几乎不用。还有一个@WhiteHouse账号，它是用来向它的六千一百万关注者发布官方信息的。
But the promise of the new @POTUS handleissomething different. A White House blog post vowed that the new Twitteraccountwould feature “tweets coming exclusively from” the president. AndTwitter usersseemed to seize on the notion that Mr. Obama might be scrollingthrough histimeline in his spare time.
但是这个新账号@POTUS承诺的有些许不同。白宫博客表示这个新推特账号将完全由总统本人打理，它的“一言一行”将全部来自总统。推特用户们认为总统先生将不得不忙里偷闲，在空闲时间更新些安排相关。
One person wrote: “@POTUS can you waivemystudent loans?” Another offered: “Since Congress is a bunch of pplshoutingopinions at each other, you should feel right at home on Twitter.” Afollowernamed TeaParty925 wrote: “@POTUS Twitter has a 140 characterlimit.Unfortunately, you have no character at all.”
一个人这么写：“你可以免除我的学生贷款吗？”另一个人写到：“国会也就是一群人冲彼此大喊大叫试图表达自己的想法的地方，所以你在推特上交流也会感觉像在家里。（国会和推特也差不多）。”一个叫“TeaParty925”的粉丝写到： “@POTUS这个账号还有140个字母可写，但你却一点性格也没有，这太可悲了。（借用character多义）”
White House aides made it clear thatMr.Obama was unlikely to spend much of his valuable time scrollingthroughthousands of posts. And they said he would not be sending directmessages tohis followers. But they insisted that the words on the account wouldbe his.
白宫的工作人员明确表示了奥巴马先生不太可能把他宝贵的时间花在阅读成千上万条留言上。同时也表示他不会直接回复关注者。但是他们保证上面的每一个字都是总统自己的话。
Sometimes, they said, Mr. Obama willtypethe words himself, as he did Monday, when he was captured in a photoreleasedby the White House. Other times, he might dictate a message to a staffmember.In a few cases, officials said, someone else might prepare a post forhisapproval.
工作人员表示，有时候奥巴马先生会自己打字然后发布，就像周一白宫发布那张他的照片时那样。其他时候，他也会对一个工作人员口述一条信息。在少数情况下，其他人也会草拟一封邮件，等待他的批准。
It is unclear what device Mr. Obama willuseto compose his thoughts. The first message was sent on an iPhone, but aidessaidthe phone belonged to the Executive Office of the President and wasnotregularly carried by Mr. Obama. Officials declined to comment onthepresident’s personal technology, but it is unlikely that he will postmessagesfrom his security-hardened BlackBerry.
奥巴马先生将会用什么设备来发布他的推特目前还不清楚。第一条信息是由iPhone发布的，但是工作人员表示手机注册于总统办公室，不由总统本人经常携带。官方拒绝透露总统的个人设备信息，但是有很大可能他会用他的黑莓手机来发布推特，而这部手机是经过严密安保的。
The officials also declined to say whyithad taken so long to have Mr. Obama join Twitter. They did, however, offerareason for his participation: The blog post announcing the account said ithadbeen created to “give Americans a new venue to engage on the issues thatmattermost to them.”
工作人员也拒绝透露为什么过了这么久奥巴马才开推特。但他们就奥巴马为什么开推特给了个解释: “官方博客邮件表示这个账号的注册是为了“给美国人一个崭新的平台，在这个平台上他们可以参与那些与他们自身息息相关的话题。”
The appeal for Mr. Obama seems obvious.Hehas gone to great lengths to break out of the politically cloisteredWashingtonscene, which he clearly hates. He has scheduled lunches with peoplewho wroteletters to him. And he has occasionally sought to shake loose of thecocoon ofprotection by walking unannounced to a deli or a coffee shop.
这对奥巴马先生的吸引力是毋庸置疑的。长期以来，他一直想方设法逃出华盛顿这个他深恶痛绝的“政治牢笼”。他计划了与曾给他写信的人们共进午餐。他也偶尔会不通知别人就漫步去熟食店或咖啡馆，以从围绕在他身边的那无孔不入的保护中透一口气。
“I’m sort oflike the circus bear that kindof breaks the chain, and I start taking off, andeverybody starts whispering,‘The bear’s loose,’ ” Mr. Obama said last year.

But early indications suggest thattheTwitter conversation may be more one-sided than he realizes. As ofMondayevening, Mr. Obama was following only 65 other accounts, which mostlyincludedthe institutions of government: @HUDGov, @USTradeRep, @USTreasury and,ofcourse, @FLOTUS. He was also following several Chicago sports teams,hiscollege alma maters and two politicians: Bill Clinton and the elderGeorgeBush.

But so far, no ordinary people. If Mr.Obamaspends any time scanning his Twitter timeline on Tuesday, he is notlikely toget that outside-of-Washington, bear-is-loose feeling that he socraves.
但是迄今为止，他还没有关注普通人。如果总统先生花了时间看看他在周二的推特时间表，他就不太可能会有那种他热切盼望的“逃出华盛顿牢笼”、“做一头解放的熊”的感觉了。
White House officials say the list ofpeopleand organizations Mr. Obama follows will grow over time. They may wantto expandit soon. It took Twitter users little time to point out that Mr.Obama wasfollowing the schools he attended — Harvard, Columbia and Occidental— but notthe University of Chicago, which once employed him and which willsupport hispresidential library.
白宫工作人员表示总统关注的人和组织的数量会与日俱增的。他们也想快速增加其数量。推特用户不难发现奥巴马关注了他上过的学校---哈佛大学、哥伦比亚大学、西方学院---独独没有芝加哥大学，而后者是他工作过的地方，并正在筹资建造“总统图书馆”。
He was also not following Hillary RodhamClinton,the Democratic presidential candidate who served as his secretary ofstate. Butthen, as of Monday evening, Mrs. Clinton’s account was not following@POTUS,either.
他也没有关注希拉里·黛安·罗德姆·克林顿（民主党候选人，前国务卿）。同样的，周一晚上，克林顿太太的账号也没有关注他。
